Helldivers 2 fans are desperate for the next update to arrive. The QA lead for Arrowhead has said that it is not arriving today, but the developer has already confirmed some fixes for the next patch such as issues with anti-aliasing while admitting Arrowhead are aware “performance ain’t great” right now. We still don’t know when the HD2 update will release, but the Helldivers 2 CEO has shared why it is taking so long to arrive while also assuring fans there’s “light at the end of the tunnel”.
On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, has briefly been discussing the next update with fans. There’s still no ETA on when the patch will arrive, and Jorjani has suggested that it is not likely to arrive this week, meaning between now and May 5th.
While we don’t know when the next update will come out, Jorjani has assured the community that “everyone is super, super hard at work at building and FIXING stuff,” and that there’s “light at the end of the tunnel”.
As for why the update is taking so long to come out, the CEO explained, “the bugs that have been piling up are in part what’s slowing us down. We build new things, more bugs pop up”.
In response to whether the old engine is to blame, Jorjani elaborated, “it’s less to do with the age of the engine and the technical debt we’ve accrued over the years”. Rather than because of the age of the engine, the difficulties stem from the fact the “project changed like 4-5 times” during its eight years of development, “so half of the game is made for something very different”.
The example cited by Shams is that “It started as a III game- then went AA, then pivoted to F2p, then back to premium, then AAA light and then shambled towards release”.
This still doesn’t let us know when the next update will arrive, but it at least gives fans an insight as to why the update hasn’t come out yet, even when fixes have already been made at Arrowhead. It seems unlikely the update is coming out before May 5th, so hopefully it arrives soon after.
