Arrowhead are back from holiday and they have just started their return with the release of update 01.003.202. This update is full of important fixes, and it’s part of Arrowhead’s plans to “100% [focus] on bug fixing and optimization” before the release on Xbox consoles. While the studio is focusing on performance for the foreseeable future, a developer has shared that they are continuously working on new Helldivers 2 enemies that will continue the “trend” of being “more complex”.
Arrowhead working on new and “more complex” Helldivers 2 enemies
Arrowhead developer, Youssef Khatib, revealed on Discord that he would be “going back into making enemy stuff again” after the end of Arrowhead’s summer break. With this acknowledged, he decided to field some questions from the community.
One user asked, “Are you working on new, more difficult enemies,” to which Youssef revealed, “we always are, enemies [are] becoming more complex and we plan to continue that trend”. This basically means Arrowhead wish to continue the trend of releasing new enemies onto the battlefield that are more difficult.
While they are planning to release more difficult enemies, Youssef revealed that the developer “still have to release a good amount of lower tier enemies to make sure there are enough steps of escalation”.
We don’t know of any official new enemies in-development, but leaks have previously revealed a “sniper and close-range assassin” to join the Illuminate in the future. This is interesting as a user asked if snipers would join the battlefield, to which Youssef responded, “once we figure out how players want to get sniped without feeling…. sniped we’d like to have some yes”.
Other Illuminate enemies leaked for the future include the returning Illusionist, as well as new cultists referred to as Zealot and Magus Adept. There has also previously been the leak of fake Illuminate that basically scour the battlefield and alert actual enemies to your whereabouts.
Lastly, Youssef explained the design process at Arrowhead for new enemies. He revealed that “There are currently two enemy teams working on enemies on Helldivers 2,” and that Arrowhead “design enemies in a fantasy first fashion, which means the enemy has to first and foremost live up to the central theme and idea of it”.
We don’t know when new enemies will be added to Helldivers 2, but we wouldn’t expect it to happen before the games joins Xbox on August 26th. This is also the week the next Warbond should be released judging by Arrowhead’s typical release schedule, so the next Warbond could be Arrowhead’s biggest yet.
