Helldivers 2 had a lot of ideas that didn’t come to fruition during development. In a recent livestream celebrating the studio’s anniversary, Arrowhead revealed initial plans for five-person squads, and they also explained the reasoning behind the biggest change between HD2 and HD1. As with all games during development, many ideas sadly didn’t materialize, and it appears that a recently leaked Helldivers 2 feature was also cut as it actually appears in the game’s opening cut-scene.
Leaked Helldivers 2 feature actually appears in opening cut-scene
The opening cinematic for Helldivers 2 is iconic. However, as noticed by eagle-eyed sleuths on the game’s subreddit, there is the appearance of a feature that is currently not possible.
This feature is weapon attachments/modifications. In the opening cinematic, there are visibly different attachments for the Liberator, even though there is no way for players to add such modifications to guns in-game.
Weapon modifications appearing in the cinematic suggest that it was a planned feature that was ultimately cut. For whatever reason is unknown, but it could have been because of development time restraints.
Fortunately, while the feature isn’t in the game right now, leaks suggest weapon modifications are in-development. A new leak has shown an ensemble of modifications for the Liberator to make it “cooler and efficient,” but there is no ETA for when it could arrive, plus it’s only a leak as of writing.
It would be fantastic for weapon modifications to arrive as it would add an extra layer of customisation to the game. It would also hopefully be for more than just the Liberator, but it’s only this weapon that has been leaked so far.
