It came down to the wire but Helldivers 2 players managed to complete the most difficult Major Order yet, which saw players defend 10 planets across the galaxy. While liberating more planets than we ever have before, some of these missions were the new defense missions that were added earlier this month.

This new mission is a breath of fresh air and one of the most fun missions in the game. However, when it comes to the higher difficulties, most players find it impossible to complete mainly due to multiple Factory Striders spawning at once which are capable of easily destroying the base, and Arrowhead Game Studios agree.

Twinbeard, one of the Helldivers 2 Community Managers, took to the official Discord server to reveal that Arrowhead Game Studios is looking into nerfing the difficulty of the new defense missions on higher difficulties due to it being “impossible” to complete, saying,

“To all of you offering feedback on how the bot citizen evac missions are $€@!£X@&! impossible on higher difficulty levels: We agree 100 % and will therefore adjust these in the near future!”

The new defense mission has been a hit with players since it was first released, with it now providing an alternative to the horde mode defense mission that is also in the game. This new defense mission, which sees players defend a base against an ever increasingly difficult horde of enemies as civilians evacuate in rockets.

So far, I have been able to complete this mission on difficulty 7, Suicide Mission, while playing with a competent team. At that difficulty I will describe it as challenging but fun, it keeps you on your toes but it is achievable without too much issue if you use the right Stratagems and pay attention to where enemies get dropped. However, on difficulty 8, Impossible, it lives up to its name.

With the same team mentioned above, we could only manage to get 4/8 scientists evacuated before the base was overrun and destroyed, no matter how many times we tried this is as far as we could get. This difficulty just ramped up way too much so it is great to see we weren’t alone in this. There is no announcement regarding when this change will be made, but with Arrowhead Game Studios releasing regular updates, it shouldn’t be too long until it is nerfed.

This news comes following the completion of the most recent Major Order. Following the completion of the Major Order, another Community Manager, Baskinator, also took to the Discord server to announce that the Helldivers were victorious saying,

MAJOR ORDER WON!
Freedom has overcome oppression once more. Even the combined might of the Terminids and Automatons was no match for the fierce and obedient resistance of the Helldivers.

Though much ground was lost, our enemies are exhausted, their assault broken upon the valiant defense raised by the Helldivers. The fight is far from over, but the light of Liberty shines bright over the worlds of the Federation today.

To celebrate, all Helldivers may take an additional two minutes on their lunchtime accommodation. Well done.”

With the most recent Major Order now completed, the Helldivers should have the advantage again against the Automatons and Terminids. But, now isn’t the time to rest on our laurels as we could soon lose ground again if we get too comfortable. To ensure this doesn’t happen, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can be well-equipped to bring Democracy to every enemy that stands in your way.
