Arrowhead is slowing down patches and updates for Helldivers 2. Although some players are disappointed, they needn’t threat too much as the plan is to deliver balance changes and fixes that are better tested. In addition, the dev still has lots of plans up their sleeve for new additions. One thing the developer is looking into adding is more Helldivers 2 emotes with greater accessibility options found in other multiplayer games.
In big Helldivers 2 news of late, Arrowhead has gotten a new CEO with Pilestedt stepping down to focus more on the game. Pilestedt has said that he wants the studio to become the new Blizzard and Fromsoftware, and the new CEO has acknowledged that the game’s popularity has consequently resulted in some toxicity creeping into the community.
Helldivers 2 is arguably the biggest and most successful game of the year so far, but as of late its momentum has begun to slow down. The game is still incredibly popular, though, and Super Earth’s many remaining soldiers may be able to better communicate and express affection for one another through more emotes in the future.
It’s probable Helldivers 2 will get more emotes
Arrowhead regularly communicates with fans on the series’ official Discord channel. Players are always asking the developer about plans for new content while sharing ideas for what the community would like to see implemented into the game.
Community manager, Twinbeard, regularly responds to such queries and suggestions from fans. Recently, the community manager was asked if the ideas of an emote wheel has come up at Arrowhead quarters. To this, Twinbeard responded:
“Yes. we’re looking into it. This is somewhere between plausible and probable, I’d say. (And if there is, there’ll likely be more emotes as well.)”
This doesn’t guarantee that more emotes and an emote wheel will definitely happen, but at least there’s an acknowledgement that Arrowhead is “looking into it” with the notion that it’s “probable”. Right now there are the following emotes in the game:
- Explosive Handshake
- Hug
- High-Five
- Scout Handshake
- Rock Paper Scissors
As for an emote wheel, this would be a simple but godsend accessibility update. Right now, to change an emote, you have to head to the Character tab in the Armory to change your specified emote. In theory, an emote wheel would allow you to change emotes on the fly, and an emote wheel is something fans have long been begging for from Arrowhead.
