Helldivers 2 is arguably the biggest and one of the best games of the year so far. It’s an absolutely amazing experience and it’s been a massive hit for Sony as their first published game to launch simultaneously across PC and PS5. Xbox doesn’t have it, but a new rumor suggests there is the possibility Sony could bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox in what would be good news for everyone.
There is a lot for fans to anticipate from developer Arrowhead. The dev has shared an upcoming nerf that will stop players ‘dying in 2 secs,’ and Arrowhead has also given an exciting update on adding melee weapons to the game. In addition, there is the possibility of sensible crossovers in the future albeit not on the scale of Fortnite with Star Wars, Marvel, and every popular IP that exists.
While the game is only going to get better for pre-existing players on PC and PS5, rumors also suggest that Helldivers 2 could potentially come to Xbox. It’s not a rumor for the very near future, but allegedly early talks are happening.
PlayStation reportedly in talks to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox
A new rumor suggests that PlayStation are in early talks to possibly bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox. This comes courtesy of the XboxEra podcast. In this podcast at the 1:52:50 mark, XboxEra’s ‘Shpeshal_Nick’ says the following:
“We know that PlayStation has a new CEO at the moment, and I think the new CEO might be more open to certain things. And what I’ve heard is that there may be some very, very early, preliminary discussions about the possibility of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox.”
Of course, this is nothing more than a rumor as of writing, and, if true, as mentioned and reiterated by Nick several times, discussions are “very, very early”. If discussions are happening, it also doesn’t guarantee that Helldivers 2 will come to Xbox so it’s something that may unfortunately never materialize.
Previously, speaking to Gamefile (via Windows Central) in February, Phil Spencer praised Helldivers 2 and suggested that its console exclusivity doesn’t benefit anybody:
“I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2, and it’s a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation, I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox,” said Spencer. “If you try to twist yourself to say, like, somehow that benefited somebody somewhere.”
Although not guaranteed, there is the possibility that HD2 could land on Xbox. There’s very few Sony Interactive published games on Microsoft’s console, but there is the example of the MLB series. Not to mention Microsoft is bringing Xbox exclusives to PlayStation such as the upcoming Sea of Thieves.
Putting console wars aside, Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox would be great for everyone. Sea of Thieves will reap the benefits for players and Microsoft when it comes to PS5, and the same would happen with Arrowhead’s shooter.
As a multiplayer experience, bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox would simply add way more players to the battlefield and community. The only downside would be the initial stress on servers, but other than that crossplay across PS5, PC, and Microsoft’s console would be epic and allow all friends to play together.
