Helldivers 2 will continue to introduce new weapons as Warbonds arrive. We don’t know when Arrowhead are releasing a new bundle, but the next Warbond shouldn’t be too far away judging by the developer’s typical release schedule. While weapon modifications and the next crossover melee weapon have possibly leaked, the Helldivers 2 CEO has also hinted a highly-requested weapon type is a matter of “when” rather than if.
Helldivers 2 CEO responds to highly-requested weapon type
On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, was given a suggestion about adding a minigun to HD2.
The user specifically referred to the “Vns2 Purger… minigun system from Killzone 4: Shadowfall”. This is because it has “600 rounds. No reload. No backpack. Overheats after 75 rounds and the duration of the overheat is short”.
In asking if we can possibly get a design similar to this in Helldivers 2, the user also suggested that it would “bypass the issue of beltfeed rendering and backpack issues”.
While not specifically responding to the Killzone 4 suggestion, Jorjani said he will ask “minigun when” again to the weapons guy. This suggests a minigun is in the pipeline and a matter of “when” rather than if.
This is an encouraging update after Shams Jorjani previously admitted in December 2024 that there are a “lot of requests for a minigun,” and that it’s “on the wishlist” internally at Arrowhead.
Unfortunately, we don’t know when such a minigun will arrive, but the thought of it being worked on internally is exciting. There are sentries in the game already, but just being able to walk around the battlefield with a big machinegun in hand just mowing down swarms of bugs would be fantastic.
