343 Industries has updated Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and have added a FloodFight mode and campaign crossplay.

The studio reaffirmed its commitment to keep supporting the game despite the recent release of Halo Infinite. On the Halo Waypoint, the studio detailed plans for updates for the older collection in 2022 including one this week. The team’s kicked off by adding a new FloodFight mode to the package’s Halo 3: ODST.

The new mode apparently does more than just add the Flood to Firefight mode. For example, players can now use the VISR map to see locations before spawning. They can also use the Energy Sword and Sentinel Beam for the first time, and even spawn with these two in Fiesta Fight mode. Some new enemies have also been mixed into the wave lineup in Firefight matchmaking.

If that wasn’t bad enough the Flood can now occupy vehicles, and they’ve got a few new animations to keep players on their toes. They’ve also got three new combat forms in the Infected Civilian, the Infected ODST and the Infected Elite Major complete with red armour and energy shields. If you’re not careful, the Flood can also infect your former teammates if they’re downed too.

On top of this new mode, 343 has also introduced campaign crossplay for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. Now you can play through both campaigns with a buddy, whether they be on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or PC. The team also plan to implement modding and Steam Workshop support for every game in the collection later this year.
