As part of Take-Two Interactive’s recently concluded earnings call for Q2 2024, CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that the GTA 6 launch window will occur as intended between April 2024 and March 2025. Zelnick also assuaged fears that the game’s release would be affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, stating: “Negotiations are expected to resume next week; we’re optimistic.”

We value all of our talent greatly, and we value excellent labor relations, and we’re looking forward to reaching an agreement that serves everyone well,” Zelnick continued. “That’s always been my approach. I’ve been involved with labor negotiations in every entertainment industry there is in my career, and they’ve always worked out just fine. In the event that they don’t work out just fine, now we are completely protected.”

With the GTA 6 trailer release date also having recently been revealed by Rockstar Games President Sam Houser, Zelnick also shared their team’s excitement at the announcement while also noting that there will inevitably be an impact on their current catalog of games upon release, including GTA Online. In addition, the Take-Two CEO also answered questions on generative AI during the latter portion of the earnings call, stating that “it gives us the opportunity to do more and do better.”

He then mentioned that the majority of the changes would be made “to menial work,” with most of it being “reduced or eliminated,” while “high-level work” would be enhanced in importance, echoing many of the same sentiments that company executives had been mentioning in past statements regarding AI. But even though Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games seemingly plan to implement generative AI in their projects, Zelnick warned not to expect price tags to go down but to “expect everything to get better” and the competition to become more intense.

Though it is good news that the GTA 6 release date won’t be affected by the ongoing strike, the news of Take-Two Interactive’s planned usage of generative AI won’t be as welcomed by many within the industry. All the community can do now, though, is wait to see which elements of the game are affected by the use of this ever-divisive piece of technology.
