Epic Games has decided to adjust V-Bucks prices in Fortnite once again. Unfortunately, the company is not immune to today’s economy, and inflation is the biggest reason for the increase in the price of premium currency. Unsurprisingly, players are upset and didn’t have anything nice to say about the latest announcement.
New V-Bucks prices will be active starting October 27, 2023. Besides V-Bucks, Epic will change the price of several packs in the game, but Fortnite Crew will remain untouched.
Fortnite players are not happy about new V-Bucks prices
In a month, new V-Bucks prices will kick in, and players in many countries will have to pay a lot more for them. This time, the change also affects players from the United States, who will have to pay $1 more for the most basic pack of V-Bucks.
“Why are they hiking vbucks? It’s literally digital currency. Just seems like a greedy move,” Reddit user BowieSensei96 wrote. “They initially discounted them. Seems like they are bringing them back to base price,” RexGoliath75 replied, referring to the original V-Bucks prices.
While it’s true that V-Bucks are virtual currency, it’s important to note that Epic Games has also been affected by inflation. The company has to pay many bills, including rent for offices in many locations around the world. Additionally, the FTC settlement may also be a reason for the price increase.
“The fake money isn’t inflating since skin prices haven’t changed,” Previous_Professor74 explained. “Inflation is driving up the cost of everything, including what it costs to run Fortnite (salaries, overhead, etc). So Epic raises their prices to maintain profits. Not a surprise.”
While many Fortnite players were upset, Reddit user ArcAngel014 tried to brighten up the mood with a joke. “Just wait until gas at the gas stations is $4 a gallon in Fortnite… Guess I won’t be driving across the map.”
“I don’t like this, I doubt anyone does, skins are already fairly overpriced, I am just lucky enough to be a founder, but this still sucks,” WrstScp shared. Many other users agreed that Fortnite skins were overpriced to begin with.
Meatlog387 believes that “there’s literally no reason. There’s no scarcity of it.” However, supply is just one of many factors that affect the price of the item.
History of V-Bucks prices
Fortnite V-Bucks used to originally cost $9.99 for the cheapest pick. Eventually, Epic Games decreased the price to $7.99, but it’ll jump to $8.99 next month. It won’t be surprising if the price eventually goes back to $9.99 at some point.
However, it’s important to note that Epic also decreased the price of Fortnite’s premium currency. Earlier this year, the company reduced the price in Mexico, since the local currency has gained value over the past few years.
Will V-Bucks prices go down in the future? We’re certainly hoping that’s the case.
