Following Blizzard’s reveal of the Spiritborn arriving as part of the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred DLC, the excitement surrounding the upcoming expansion is reaching an all-time high. Although there’s still a ways to go before its launch, the unique playstyle this new class brings (along with another major region in Nahantu) means you’ll have plenty of content to chew on once it drops. However, despite the multi-faceted character design Spiritborns bring, some still want Diablo 4 to reintroduce the Paladin instead.
If you’re a diehard Diablo player, you’re probably already familiar with its standing in Diablo history. Considered one of, if not the most popular class in Diablo 2, the Paladin is a light-wielding warrior who can provide stout protection to allies while dishing out an equal amount of divine sword-and-shield retribution. Its strengths on offense and defense make it especially ideal for solo players and an invaluable part of any Prime Evil-slaying squad (hence its popularity).
And, since Diablo 4’s starting classes are already mostly made up of classic jobs in the Barbarian, Rogue, and Necromancer, the Paladin would fit seamlessly into the game’s currently small selection. Over on Reddit, some fans, like user Justice_Response, are confused at the Paladin’s absence, “It’s baffling that the [developers] aimed for ‘classic’ champions, like Barbarians, but failed to include the original Paladin class, which has significant lore and is a huge part of the game’s history.”
Of course, with the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred release date set to kick off towards the end of the year, it’s unlikely Blizzard will bring the Paladin back soon. But since this won’t be the game’s only expansion—Producer Rod Fergusson revealed in a Kinda Funny interview that the team had already been working on two DLCs—the Paladin could eventually come back in a future major update. So, for now, why not check out the Spiritborn reveal so you know what this summoning class has to offer?
