Now that the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is well within sight, more teasers on the upcoming expansion are steadily starting to trickle in, including one on the new class, the Spiritborn. Set to release as part of the DLC, Blizzard’s recent showcase gave an in-depth look at the Spiritborn’s design, lore, and, of course, its skills, including an extended look at an ability that lets you summon a terrifyingly deadly giant centipede.
Of course, a massive creepy-crawly isn’t the only creature you can summon as the Spiritborn. You’ll also be able to call on three other Spirit Guardians: an agile, sharp-toothed jaguar, a high-flying majestic eagle, and a hard-hitting immovable gorilla. Like the Druid, each of these Spirit Guardians will have their strengths and provide their own unique style of gameplay.
As you’d probably expect, the jaguar places tremendous focus on aggression and pressure. It’ll provide you with plenty of abilities that let you close gaps and chain kills together, allowing you to clear dungeons and mobs with ease. On the other hand, the gorilla is a sturdy and nigh immovable beast that’ll give you a ton of defense while dishing out an equal amount of hurt to enemies.
Next, the high-flying eagle is all about movement (and might be my favorite of all four), allowing you to move through the battlefield with blinding speed and precision. And, last but not least, the many-legged centipede is, of course, no slouch; like the real-life arthropod, this Spirit Guardian uses AoE poison skills to wreak havoc on your demonic opponents. It gives you plenty of crowd control and a unique damage-over-time playstyle that other classes haven’t really provided so far.
All in all, the Diablo 4 Spiritborn is a class that wants you to experiment with different builds, whether that’s a mix of the centipede and eagle skills, jaguar and gorilla abilities, etc. Of course, you will have to wait until the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred release date to try it out, but with Season 5 kicking off soon, time should pass rather quickly now that we’re at the tail end of the year.
