In the fast-paced, cutthroat world of CoD, extra survivability is necessary since it gives any competent player an advantage over the rest of the competition. That’s why people often collect and use up several armor plates throughout a Warzone match. But since using this protective equipment in other game modes would be too bland and repetitive, Treyarch is spicing things up. Instead of letting you equip armor plates in Black Ops 6 multiplayer, you can use enemy players as meat shields.

We emphasize the word “enemy” because this means you won’t be able to use your teammates as bullet sponges. First spotted by CoD news aggregator CharlieIntel, you’ll apparently be able to use other players as meat shields in both multiplayer and campaign. However, Activision and Treyarch haven’t specified how long their protection will last—although it’s safe to assume that you’ll only have a few seconds before you and your involuntary hostage both hit the dirt.

It’s also worth noting that using other players as meat shields will likely be very difficult. Since you probably won’t be able to use corpses as protection, you’ll have to get up close and personal with other players in order to grab them. And since other people wouldn’t appreciate you invading their personal space, you may be better off just shooting them immediately. Otherwise, you may end up with more deaths than kills when it’s all said and done.

Of course, this is still mere speculation since Activision and Treyarch have yet to specify how this new gameplay feature will work. But with the Black Ops 6 release date and open beta period inching closer than ever, you should be getting a closer, hands-on look at in-game meat shields, the entire maps list, and more soon. If you’re eager to play the game at launch, we recommend taking a look at the Black Ops 6 pre-order bonuses as well.
