It’s fair to say every Final Fantasy fan is super excited about the release of Final Fantasy 16 in just over a week on June 22 and with the game set to have a darker tone the Game of Thrones comparisons continue to roll in from fans with one tidbit of information, in particular, garnering a lot of discussion.

In a Reddit thread, many have been drawing comparisons to Game of Thrones after it was revealed that Clive and Joshua Rosfield’s mother in Final Fantasy 16, Anabella Rosfield is in an incestuous marriage with her cousin, Archduke Elwin. The bio of Rosfield provides a little more background into the character and her marriage saying the following: “Duchess of Rosaria, wife of Archduke Elwin, and mother to Clive and Joshua. It was not only her beauty but her connection to a bloodline that produced many previous Dominants of the Phoenix that led to her being proposed as a bride for the young Archduke – indeed, the two are cousins. Having known from a young age that her purpose in life was to preserve her Phoenix-bearing bloodline, she dotes on Joshua, and scorns Clive.”

With the screenshot of the bio being shared, it didn’t take long for the Game of Thrones comparisons to come rolling in with user dcbnyc123 humorously noting that it was strange that George R. R. Martin worked on Elden Ring despite Final Fantasy 16 being more in line with Game of Thrones saying, “It’s funny that George RR martin helped write elden ring, but this game is way more on GoT brand. They took the best of everything from the last 10 years and made a video game. and I’m completely fine with it. it’s outstanding in every way. want the gameplay of devil may cry in a final fantasy setting with a Game of Thrones ANYONE CAN AND WILL DIE setting? yes, please.” Another user even pointed out that maybe this revelation is a bit too much saying, “We wanted some Game of Thrones. That’s too much Game of Thrones.”
