As part of the annual North American Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival, game director and producer Naoki Yoshida along with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer have announced that Square Enix’s MMORPG will be arriving on Xbox in Spring 2024. The fourteenth series installment’s launch window on the Microsoft gaming platform arrives a few months ahead of Dawntrail expansion’s release, meaning Xbox fans will have plenty to look forward to in the coming year.

In a statement made during the annual North American FFXIV event, which also included the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail revelation, Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu had this to say about the impending partnership: “Starting with today’s announcement of Final Fantasy 14 coming in Spring 2024 and whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games for Xbox players to enjoy.” Phil Spencer then followed that up by stating: “We look forward to building on the relationship that we’ve established in bringing Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox and partnering closely with you and the Square Enix team on future games.”

With this in mind, this may not be the last we hear of a Final Fantasy game coming to the popular Microsoft platform as the latest series installment, Final Fantasy 16, was notably made unavailable on Xbox. However, with the critically acclaimed entry having only been released recently, fans may have to remain patient for a long while as PlayStation and Square Enix’s exclusivity deal for the game is set to last for at least a year.

But despite the fact that another Final Fantasy series entry may not be coming to the Microsoft gaming platform any time soon, there should still be plenty of content to digest for Xbox fans as the myriad expansions that have been released so far for Final Fantasy 14 should be enough to hold you over until another RPG entry arrives.
