Final Fantasy XIV’s Endwalker expansion brought with it many features for players to enjoy. New gear, a new story, and two new jobs players could choose from. One of those new jobs was the Reaper job.
Players especially like the Reaper class because of its dark aesthetics and power derived straight from the void. What’s more, unlike the Dark Knight class that has a similar aesthetic, the Reaper isn’t a tank class.
We’re here to go through everything you need to know about unlocking the Reaper class/job in FFXIV, as well as why players like it so much.

What is Reaper in Final Fantasy XIV?
As mentioned above, Reaper is a class/job players can unlock, and it came with the Endwalker update over a year ago. Unlike its counterpart, the Sage, however, this job is for players who like darker aesthetics.
Having a scythe as its main weapon of choice, the Reaper job has the potential to deal devastating melee damage expected from a melee DPS class such as this. Additionally, this job derives its powers straight from the void, which really is as cool as it sounds.
If that wasn’t dark enough, players that have the Reaper job are also able to collect souls, much like a Grim Reaper would. These souls can then in turn be used to execute devastating abilities, some of which are done by summoning the player’s demonic avatar. Oh right, did we mention you get a demonic avatar as well?

How to Unlock Reaper in Final Fantasy XIV
As the Reaper is a job that came later down the line instead of at launch like jobs such as Lancer and Monk, there are several requirements players need to meet before they’re able to unlock this job for themselves. Those requirements are:
- You must be a level 70+ disciple of war or magic.
- You must have access to the Endwalker expansion
After meeting all two of these requirements, simply follow the below mentioned steps
- First, head to the Steps of Nald in Ul’dah.
- Look for the ‘Flustered Attendant’, and speak with that NPC (Should be at or around X:12.8 Y:8.6)
- By speaking with the Flustered Attendant, you’ll unlock a quest called ‘The Killer Instinct’.
- Complete this quest (Should be pretty easy as you’ll basically just have to walk around and talk to a bunch of people), and upon completion, you’ll be rewarded with the Soul of the Reaper, Muzhik Attire Coffer, and a high-quality Deepgold War Scythe. Everything you need for the Reaper job.
There is one thing to keep in mind, which is unlike the starting jobs in the game, you won’t start the Reaper job from level 1. Instead, you’ll already start off at level 70 and have a rather well developed and streamlined skillset from the get go.

That was everything you needed to know about unlocking the Reaper job in FFXIV. This class is well loved by many players for a number of reasons, but you might not see too many of them in the wild because of its rather high level requirement, at least when compared to most other jobs in the game.
