Soccer sim FIFA 22 has had the full gameplay reveal treatment, thanks to a new 30-minute Spotlight Series video released by EA this week.

The video comes as part of EA’s Spotlight Series, which has been a collection of in-depth videos the company has released leading up to EA Play Live later this week. With this one focused entirely on FIFA 22 and featuring members of EA Vancouver, it’s our most in-depth look at the game yet.

Of course, the main focus is the new HyperMotion technology that’s the banner feature of this year’s game. Lead gameplay producer Sam Rivera talks us through the new animation system, and how the team used to mocap two, three players and would direct them for what they needed. With the new system they had an entire 22-player game, with everyone wearing special suits allowing the devs to capture the data in a more natural environment.

Some of the other features mentioned include an entire rewrite of the goalkeeper system. Promising “a new level of intelligence” for keepers, the studio says they’ll be more reliable at shot stopping and make smarter decisions. True Ball physics are touted so that the ball moves as realistically as the players, and there’s new attacking tactics and a new ‘Explosive Sprint’ mechanic promised too.

You can check out the full FIFA 22 gameplay reveal for yourself below. The game is set for launch on October 1 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
