Fortnite is arguably the biggest game of all time let alone just right now. The game is played by millions on a daily basis, yet, despite its massively high playerbase, fans believe that the number of daily users should be even higher. This is because the Fortnite player count has noticeably fallen since last year’s Chapter 4 which saw the return of the OG map.

There is a lot to anticipate for the Fortnite community very soon. The release date for Chapter 5 Season 3 is imminent, and Epic Games themselves may have accidentally leaked the Season 3 map. Even more leaks such as new Rocket Racing maps also point to a massive crossover with another Disney IP arguably as big and iconic as Star Wars.

While new content is exciting, there are many in the community clamouring for the return of OG mode. Some fans are not happy with the current direction of the game, and they argue that the falling player count proves the belief that OG Fortnite is best.

Fortnite player count is back to pre-OG

Reddit user awesomedogman3 has shared screenshots that show the Fortnite player count has now fallen back to its daily users before the return of OG in Chapter 4 between November and December 2nd. As shown by the screenshots, the average amount of players pre-OG in October, 2023, was 1,517,384, and the average amount of players on May 11th, 2024, was exactly the same.

You can check out the official player count in the embedded Reddit post below:

When the OG map returned to Fortnite in November 2023, the battle royale reached its highest player count in years. As per Game Informer, it had its biggest day ever with 44 million players thanks to the OG throwback.

Epic Games’ player count right now is not bad at all, and every game developer and publisher would dream of having millions of active users on a daily basis. However, there is disgruntlement in the community over Chapter 5, and fans are using the player count as evidence that the game has not been good since the start of the new year.

In the Reddit replies, some fans argue that the dwindling player count is indicative of the community wanting OG back. One of the replies says, ‘All they [Epic Games] had to do is realize nobody wants change for the sake of change and start doing more CH 1 and 2 styled seasons again’.

Another one of the comments says ‘CH4 should’ve stayed, and should’ve been longer. CH5 is complete garbage and an absolute disaster (this chapter is just stupid and unnecessary changes that nobody asked for (locker UI, heavier, and more realistic graphics, hitscan to projectile, etc… ) Literally nobody asked for all this’.

While there are people unhappy with the game’s current direction with its focus on new modes such as LEGO, Rocket Racing, and the music Festival, there are many players who are happy with the game’s performance. As pointed out by the replies, the player count is still healthy and better than nearly all other video games.

In addition, there are arguments that the player count is smaller right now because it’s nearly the end of the season and the player base typically grows at the start of new seasons.

For those who are not happy with the emphasis on new modes like LEGO, Rocket Racing, and Festival, the good news is that OG is planned to come back. There’s unfortunately no date for when it will return, but the FortniteGame Twitter account did post that Epic would like to bring it back as it far exceeded their expectations.

For more Fortnite news, over a dozen new music Festival songs have leaked starring Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa. The first Chapter 5 Season 3 battle pass skin has possibly leaked, too, and a new leak reveals amazing details about the upcoming next event.
