Codemasters has released the second of their developer deep dives into upcoming racing sim release, EA Sports F1 22.

This latest peek under the hood concentrates on some of the new features in the series’ latest outing. This includes bringing VR to the franchise for the first time on PC, with the studio working with Behaviour Interactive. They’ve worked together on previous PC ports, including the DiRT series, so they’re safe hands for this outing.

As the studio reveals in the video, adding VR support introduced some interesting challenges to the game. Of course, they didn’t want players made too uncomfortable while racing at blistering speeds. However, they also had to factor in things like sudden stops as a result of crashing the cars, and similar scenarios. A lot of attention of course also had to go into making the car cockpits as realistic as possible, given drivers would be getting their closest look yet.

The video also takes a look at other new features and tweaks – including adaptive AI & more assists for newer players.  My Team & Career Mode has also had a number of changes, with multi-threaded choices and decisions that can make an effect on your entire season.

A big addition this time around is F1 Life. It’s a new hub you’ll visit between races, inspired by the glamourous life of an F1 driver. You’ll be able to customise and personalise this space, showing off your accomplishments though furniture, trophies and even supercars. They’ll also act as multiplayer lobbies, with your customisable avatars letting you explore the space.

You can check out all this and more in the F1 22 developer deep dive video below. EA Sports F1 22 will arrive on July 1, 2022 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
