Destiny 2 recently received update 8.1.5. This came out on November 19th, and it’s a hefty patch that started Act II of Revenant. While large portions of the fixes and additions have been received well by the D2 community, there is a “depressing” nerf that has Destiny 2 players convinced someone at Bungie hates the Hunter class.
Fans of Bungie have a look to look forward to in the future. Marathon is still in development with hopefully a release next year, meanwhile, Destiny Rising could come out next year, too. As for D2 specifically, Bungie has shared the Year 11 roadmap, and it includes a lot of planned new content for 2025 until 2026.
While Year 11 should be great, right now D2 players are able to explore the Tomb of Elders thanks to the beginning of Revenant Act II. While a lot of update 8.1.5 has been well received, some players are not happy with the Combination Blow nerf for Hunters.
Destiny 2 Combination Blow nerf has players convinced Bungie hates the Hunter class
Bungie shared the patch notes for Destiny 2 update 8.1.5 on November 19th, and fans reacted largely in kind and appreciative on the game’s official subreddit.
However, although the reception to the patch is largely favorable, there is dissatisfaction with the Combination Blow nerf for Hunters. As for how the Combination Blow was nerfed, Bungie “Reduced bonus damage against combatants by around 17%”.
In the replies, there are comments accusing Bungie of trying to “sneak” the nerf in without anyone noticing. Comments have called it “absolute bull” while remarking that nerfing someone’s favorite build doesn’t make them want to come back.
Others called it “random” and “straight out of left field,” and there are comments that it’s “depressing”. Another user commented, “I don’t think you can convince me someone on the balancing team doesn’t hate Hunter”.
While a lot of players are annoyed with the nerf, others are simply baffled by why it’s happened at all. One user commented it’s bizarre to nerf the Hunter’s Combination Blow when “Consecration spam Titans are clearly the best PvE option”.
More users agreed with the Titan comparison by proclaiming “Consecration spam is way more overused in end game content than combination blow is”. Another user commented the Combination Blow nerf “completely baffles me when Titans are soloing GMs with consecration”.
Below are all of the Hunter changes in patch 8.1.5:

- Reduced height of damage impulse from 5m to 3.75m.
- Reduced DR against players from 53% to 45%, both on cast and during the spin attack.

- Note: This change excludes the Celestial Nighthawk Golden Gun variant
- Combination Blow
