Despite recent turmoil at Bungie, Destiny remains a huge property with a massive fanbase. Bungie has revealed their exciting plans for D2 next year, and they are also working on bringing back the Marathon series. In addition, there is Destiny Rising of which recent leaks compare it to Diablo Immortal with the proclamation it’s “not for western Destiny 2 players”.

For D2, Bungie has shared their Year 11 roadmap for 2025/26. There are some pretty big changes part of Bungie’s plans, and hopefully they will be beneficial to the series and its community. In addition to revealing the roadmap, Bungie has admitted the game is “too complex,” and they intend to bring back the original game’s mystery following the conclusion to The Final Shape.

While the future is hopefully bright for D2, there is a lot of mystery surrounding a spin-off in development called Destiny Rising. This spin-off hasn’t been announced yet, but quite big leaks have just surfaced online.

Destiny Rising leaks

For Forbes, reliable Destiny 2 commentator, Paul Tassi, has shared a compilation of recent leaks for the unannounced spin-off, Destiny Rising. Some of these leaks come from Paul Tassi, but they are also credited to SkillUp and Game Post.

First of all, Destiny Rising is a mobile spin-off said to have been in development for many years, and “The game is made almost entirely by NetEase”. For those unfamiliar, NetEase were the developers behind Diablo Immortal, for which Destiny Rising is reportedly similar.

It is a “prequel to Destiny 1, and will not be some sort of way to play Destiny 2 on mobile”. According to Tassi, Game Post has said it is a third-person shooter, yet still somehow mirrors the core Destiny gameplay experience. Tassi isn’t able to corroborate this, so that needs to be acknowledged.

Tassi reports the game is “hero-focused,” and you will play as characters during an older era of Destiny’s history. No names are confirmed, but Tassi expects the likes of Zavala and Shaxx. It might also be set during the Warlord era. In addition to being hero-focused, it will reportedly contain “missions, strikes and possibly even a raid”.

While NetEase are the core developers, there is a narrative from Bungie. In regard to comparisons with Diablo Immortal, Tassi claims this is the closest parallel they have heard. This is because Diablo Immortal is a “game that was lambasted by core Diablo fans but has gone on to be a moneymaking hit producing frequent new content”.

It’s currently “unclear how the game will be monetized” and if it will have “pay to win mechanics,” but the “target audience is not western Destiny 2 players”. Tassi says he has been told the game is “100% aimed at the Asian market” as that is where “invasive microtransactions are more than commonplace and less poorly received”.

Lastly, there’s no indication of when the game will be released as it hasn’t even been teased yet. It could be next year, but this is just a guess rather than anything concrete.

None of the above leaks are official as of writing, but Tassi is an often reliable source for all things Destiny. While the accuracy remains unclear for the foreseeable, it at least gives an insight as to what the spin-off could look like when it is inevitably announced.
