Destiny has turned 10 years old. Bungie celebrated the series’ tenth anniversary on September 9th, and in doing so they laid out the foundations for the future of D2 moving forward. It’s no secret Bungie has been struggling for most of 2024, and as a developer they have announced that a major shakeup is necessary. Major changes are coming to Destiny 2 with the year 11 roadmap, and, although change can be scary, Bungie has explained why these alterations will be for the better.

As part of the 10 year anniversary celebrations, Bungie released new armor sets and a new Legend title. You will want to unlock this Legend title before October 8th so you can get the accompanying early access bonus. In addition to new content for D2 next year, fans of Bungie have an MMO spin-off called Destiny Rising to anticipate for the future.

Next year is set to be massive for Destiny 2. It needs to bring back the swarms of players who have recently departed since The Final Shape. Fortunately, Bungie has shared the Year 11 roadmap, and there are two big expansions to anticipate next year along with other updates.

All of the above for the year 11 roadmap looks great. Perhaps the biggest change is two expansions in 2025 rather than just one. The Destiny 2 game director, Tyson Green, explained, “Starting next year, instead of one big Expansion, we are going to deliver two medium-sized Expansions, one every six months. Each of these will depart from the one-shot campaign structure we’ve been using essentially unchanged since Shadowkeep, and each will be an opportunity to explore exciting new formats instead”.

In addition to two expansions in 2025 rather than just one, Bungie are also introducing four major updates every three months instead of three episodes. This is fantastic news as every three months there will be “a substantial refresh of the core game, bringing new activities and reward content”.

Looking at the reaction on Reddit, most seem to be excited by the changes. There is curiosity over how much the two expansions will cost compared to just one, but most of the comments are optimistic about the schedule for 2025.
