Jeff Ross, game director of Days Gone, has accused Sony of making the game “feel like it was a big disappointment” despite strong sales.

Ross’ comments came following yesterday’s news fellow PlayStation first-party title Ghost of Tsushima had sold over 8 million copies worldwide. In a post on his Twitter account, Jeff claimed local studio management didn’t show him or his team the same support despite hitting a similar milestone.

“At the time I left Sony, Days Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month), and sold over 8 million copies. It’s since gone on to sell more, and then a million+ on Steam. Local studio management always made us feel like it was a big disappointment.”

Jeff’s tweet prompted a wealth of responses from Days Gone fans that included several of his peers in the industry, including former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden. He responded “Always thought it was an ambitious and impressive title. The HORDES! It was a real privilege to be there on Launch Day. Will not forget.”

A sequel to Days Gone was apparently on the cards, it emerged last year. However, plans were rejected by Sony according to reports due to a mixed critical reception for the game. Ross would depart Bend Studio, along with the game’s writer-director John Garvin, at the end of 2020. The studio, sans Ross, is now working on a brand new open-world IP.

It’s a huge shame we never got that sequel, as we were big fans of Days Gone here too. You can check out our review from 2019 right over this way.
