Insomniac has announced a one-two punch of excellent Spider-Man news today, declaring that it’ll be releasing a special Spider-Man 2 prequel comic to fill in some of the story between the previous game and the upcoming sequel.

The comic will be launched to mark Free Comic Book Day in the US on Saturday, May 6 (and will release worldwide via the Marvel Unlimited app ‘at a later date’) – and will catch-up on what Mary Jane, Peter Parker and Miles Morales have all been up to following the events of the Marvel’s Spider-Man game and its follow-up Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. It’s been written by Christos Gage – who was one of the writers on the game, and illustrated by artist Ig Guara.

If that wasn’t enough Spider-Man news, Insomniac has also announced that PlayStation 5 owners will finally be able to buy the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered version as a separate purchase on the PlayStation Store later this month. Previously, the Remastered version of the game had only been available to those who purchased the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, those who upgraded their copy of Miles Morales on PS5 to the Ultimate Editon, or on the PC.

Though a specific date hasn’t been given – once the standalone version is released there will also be an upgrade path for those who own the original Marvel’s Spider-Man game on PS4 – both physical and digital. If you own a physical or digital copy, the digital deluxe edition, or the Game of the Year Edition of Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Remastered version for just $10 or local equivalent.

There’s a couple of caveats – firstly, if you own a physical copy, you’ll still need to put your disk into your PS5 to play the Remastered version. This means if you have the PS5 digital only (ie, no disk drive console) you won’t be able to claim the discounted upgrade. You also won’t be able to claim if you obtained your copy of Spider-Man through PlayStation Plus.
