Sucker Punch Productions has announced 2020 samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima has now sold over 8 million copies worldwide.

The game originally launched in 2020 before a Director’s Cut release on PS5 and PS4 one year later. Development studio Sucker Punch Productions offered up some words to fans on the milestone. “Thank you so much to everyone who has played since launch! We are so incredibly appreciative and grateful for the support.”

It’s an impressive milestone, and one we can’t help but agree with. Over to Josh in our original review: “If your adventuring eyes are tired, I recommend it as I would a cold towel. You’re never as happy as when you’re lost in the early languor—which blankets the most enticing open worlds like a mist, before burning off under the hissing pressure of a plot.”

Josh’s enthusiasm didn’t waver for the Director’s Cut either, which added a new Iki Island expansion. “My memory of the art style, doomed to dry and fade, was no match for being reacquainted with the real thing—like holding a painting up to the humming pane of a liquid-crystal display. Elsewhere, the clutch of fresh mechanics is welcome.”

Ghost of Tsushima is available in both vanilla and Director’s Cut flavours now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. A movie is also in the works, of which the director has recently said he really wants to get right.
