The CoD community’s widespread negative reaction towards MW3 isn’t at all a surprise following the revelation that the latest installment’s campaign leaves a lot to be desired with its puzzlingly short length and half-baked nature. For this reason, many within the fan base, as has often been the case in the past, have turned to review bombing Activision’s upcoming shoot ’em up on Metacritic, though it seems that most scathing reviews are landing on a completely wrong page.
Instead of review bombing MW3’s 2023 version ahead of its release date, players have begun writing up negative reviews on 2011’s critically acclaimed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 instead, as the beloved past installment’s user score currently sits at a paltry 3.6 out of 10, which pales in comparison to its noticeably higher Metascore of 88 out of 100 based on several critic reviews.
Unsurprisingly, some spectators have called out the fan base’s behavior, as one X user simply called this an “average Call of Duty community moment.” Another player, on the other hand, pointed out that it “doesn’t help that both games have the same title” and that this is “something that modern games need to stop doing.”
Luckily, a few level-headed CoD gamers have already come to the defense of the popular series installment, as one user claimed: “They bombarded [2011 MW3] with bad reviews, the game that closes an acclaimed trilogy. If only they had taken the time to read ‘MW3’ (which is a very big difference from ‘MWIII’).” Alas, even though they generously gave the game a perfect score, it sadly won’t be enough to undo the damage that thousands of accounts had already done.
Review bombing is a tale as old as time, and it isn’t a surprise that the CoD community has come out in droves to leave negative reactions following MW3 2023’s poorly received campaign. Hopefully, though, they leave their criticisms on the correct Metacritic page next time because a game that’s as good as 2011’s Modern Warfare 3 doesn’t deserve the hate that it’s getting.
