Modern Warfare 2 will be getting raids post launch, Activision has confirmed.

The news was announced on stage by franchise director Patrick Kelley during the COD Next last month. We got some further details in the Call of Duty blog, revealing they’ll debut in Modern Warfare 2 “later this year after launch”.

These raids will involve three players, we’re told – and will require teamwork from all three members of the squad. Activision has teased they’ll involve “strategic, puzzle-solving thinking in-between bouts of intense combat.”

Kelley also mentioned the addition of Quests and Missions too, somewhat turning the game into an RPG similar to Destiny. We’ll find out more about these in the coming weeks.

There’ll also be some new modes including Knockout, Invasion (Ground War) and Prisoner Rescue. Invasion will pit players again other humans and AI. You’ll have to eliminate, or be eliminated – battling to push forward an ever-advancing front line.

Then there’s Prisoner Rescue, that will see players trying to rescue a number of hostages and get them out of the map alive, while the other team tries to stop them. One of your team will have to carry the hostage, and they’ll be unable to use their primary weapon when they do.

Finally, in Knockout, two teams are fighting over a bag of cash. If you’re knocked out, you’re out – but can be revived by your teammates. Eliminate the entire team or hold onto the bag for a total of 60 seconds for the victory.

Elsewhere, we found out that Warzone 2 will be getting ledge hanging and MW 2 will get a brand new Gunsmith.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 releases on October 28 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
