The developers behind Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 have offered fans a peek at the new revamped Gunsmith 2.0 system coming in the new game.

A new blog post and video gave fans the details on what to expect, including a look at the Vault Edition bonus FJX Cinder Weapon Vault.

The revamped Gunsmith promises to offer a far more broader experience since its debut in 2019’s Modern Warfare, with overhauls to progression to boot.

That’s in part thanks to the game’s new way of organising weapons known as ‘Weapon Platforms’. These platforms make attachment pools, making for easier swaps.

Levelling up a weapon unlocks attachments, just as before – but there are now two types. There’s those that are specific to that Weapons Platform, and those that can be used across all guns.

Basically, these weapon platforms act as families or groups of weapons – and rather than unlocking a suppressor 40-50 times to use it on each gun, now you’ll only have to unlock it once to use it on every gun on that platform.

Meanwhile the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault will be a special Weapon Blueprint. If you have it, you’ll instantly unlock dozens of platform native attachments. This essentially also gives them a more unified look, as explained in the video below.

The FJX Cinder Weapon Vault is just one of many weapons that’ll be in Modern Warfare 2. You can check out our ongoing list here.

We’ll find out more during the Call of Duty Next event this evening – ahead of the Modern Warfare 2 beta which goes live on PlayStation tomorrow.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
