A Black Panther open-world game is reportedly in the works at Electronic Arts. Supposedly the developers are a studio led by former Monolith Productions boss Kevin Stephens.

According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb (via VGC):

“It is a single-player game, it is in very early development, and the game starts with Black Panther being dead. The player is going to take on the challenges of becoming the new Black Panther and that seems to be the set-up for the game.”

And Grubb made it clear that the details he has on this game are from the initial pitch. So this means that some of this may well change. The game is, apparently, in the early stages of development.

The game’s code-name is reportedly “Project Rainier,” which is a reference to Mount Rainier, in Seattle. This is where EA’s newest studio is based. It was rumoured that this studio would be named Neon Black Studios. (This was the same studio, incidentally, that was hiring staff to work on a new Battlefield campaign.

“They’re looking at making this a big open-world Black Panther game,” said Grubb. And that is about as much as we know at this time.

In other recent EA news, the release window for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could be early 2023. Or it may not be that. We will see.
