If you’re looking to play Black Ops 6 with a few friends on your couch, make sure you have a current-gen console. That’s because split-screen gameplay will only be available on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S. So, those still playing on older platforms (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) cannot enjoy the classic feel of completing a campaign mission while sitting side-by-side with your partner-in-crime.

That’s according to a support article Activision recently released, which states the following: “Split-screen gameplay (two players sharing a screen) for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. To ensure performance integrity, split-screen gameplay will not be supported on Xbox One or PlayStation 4.”

Now, it’s no surprise that the relatively outdated hardware of previous-gen consoles has its limitations. After all, most newly released or upcoming games are starting to become current-gen exclusives (see Concord and the Silent Hill 2 Remake). But that said, this is still undoubtedly disappointing for players who have yet to upgrade consoles, which, according to Game File’s Stephen Totilo, is half of PlayStation’s current 118 million monthly active users (that’s roughly around a whopping 59 million).

In addition to having no split-screen on previous-gen consoles, Black Ops 6 will also require you to have a constant internet connection to play it. This is because the game “will use texture streaming across all game modes” in order “to deliver the highest quality visuals while also reducing the game’s overall storage space on your hard drive.” So, aside from not having couch co-op on the PS4 and Xbox One, you also won’t be able to play the Campaign or the upcoming round-based Zombies mode offline.

Even with these limitations, though, the hype for BO6 is still at an all-time high. So, if you’re eagerly waiting for it to drop, check out the Black Ops 6 release date to get an idea of when you can start playing it.
