EA and Respawn have announced that the long-awaited new-gen updates for Apex Legends will arrive with today’s Warrior Event update.

The official Twitter account revealed the news last night and detailed what upgrades players can expect from these native versions. There’ll be a number of improvements over the current backwards compatible versions, including 4K output, full 60Hz display & HDR support. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners will also get higher resolution shadow maps and greater LOD distances.

These first updates won’t be the end of the next-gen features, however, as Respawn reveal in their blog post they intend to add more in the future. These will include support for 120Hz gameplay and further visual and audio improvements on both consoles. There’ll also be haptic and adaptive trigger support for the PlayStation 5’s DualSense in future updates.

Players who own the game on Xbox Series X|S will be able to upgrade via the console’s handy Smart Delivery system. It’s a bit more complicated for PlayStation owners, although not too much more than they’re used to. Just select Options on the Apex Legends tile on the PS5 game hub, select version and download the PS5 one. You can then delete the PS4 one to save hard drive space from the Game Library.

The new-gen updates for Apex Legends will be available later today for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, alongside the Warrior Collection event on all formats. You can check out full patch notes over on the game’s official website.
