Apex Legends will celebrate its third anniversary next month with a new season entitled Defiance, with new legend Mad Maggie.
The first details of the battle royale shooter’s next season have kicked off with a story introduction trailer, as is tradition. Judgment introduces us to Mad Maggie, who’s sentenced to fight to the death in the Apex Games for her crimes. We last saw her in Fuse’s introduction a year ago, as his partner in crime before he stabbed her in the back to join the Apex games. She might have some unfinished business there, then.
As well as Mad Maggie, Respawn is also teasing a new LTM called Control. For the first three weeks of the new season, you’ll play a new mode that sees two teams of 9 fight to hold control points, with an infinite respawn. The team has also promised an update to the Olympus map. We’ll get more details on all of this in a trailer, set to land this Thursday, January 27. You can read our thorough APEX Legends tier list guide which goes through every character updated for the latest season right here.
On top of that, however, Respawn is also planning to offer its player base freebies to celebrate the game’s third birthday. Anyone who logs in during the first three weeks of the new season can unlock Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie for no extra cost, along with three thematic packs. Octane will be available between Feb 8 to 15, Wattson on Feb 15 to Feb 22, and Valkyrie can be yours on Feb 22 – March 1. If you already own the Legends, you’ll still get the Thematic Packs and Legendary pack.
Notably, the anniversary announcement post also specifically mentions Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 for the first time. Could this be the next-gen patch that’s been rumoured? We’ll have to wait and see. Apex Legends Season 12: Defiance kicks off on February 8.
