Activision has now announced that they are committed to creating content for CoD Mobile a few days after Microsoft announced its intention to phase out the portable FPS offering. The contradictory statement comes as a surprise to most fans due to the tech giant’s impending acquisition of the video game company.

Activision’s statement, which was posted through the game’s official Twitter account, mentioned that they see CoD Mobile as an important part of the entire franchise and their overall mobile strategy. They then go on to say that they “have the best supporting fans in the world,” and that “they intend to continue supporting the game with a robust roadmap of fresh new content, activities, and updates for the long haul.”

Player reaction has largely been positive so far as the mobile FPS offering has attracted a large number of users since its initial launch. But with the looming merger seemingly set to be approved, the final decision on the game’s development may not be entirely up to Activision.

Microsoft’s previous revelation of wanting to phase out CoD Mobile came as part of an official document sent to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority. In it, they noted that “CoD: Mobile is expected to be phased out over time (outside of China) with the launch of Warzone Mobile.”

If the tech giant’s acquisition of Activision does indeed get accepted, it may not bode well for fans of the popular mobile CoD title. Hopefully, Microsoft has a change of heart by then, but with their intentions already being recorded in a formal capacity, the game’s fate may already be set in stone.
