Publisher 2K looks set to announce an “exciting new franchise” later this month as per its parent company Take-Two’s 2022 Q1 earnings results call last night.

As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said “Later this month, 2K will unveil details of another exciting new franchise planned for launch during this fiscal year”. This means the new franchise should be released by March 31, 2022.

While the company didn’t allude to what the new series might be, it did reveal a couple of other interesting nuggets during the call. Firstly, that it had delayed the launch of two “immersive core” titles to later in the current fiscal year – although again, stopped short of naming them. Back in May during the company’s previous earnings call, the company originally said it would release four of these “immersive core” titles out of 21 planned games total over the next year.

The company also revealed during the call that Grand Theft Auto V had hit a new milestone in sales. The now eight-year-old criminal open world adventure now stands at a whopping 150 million copies shipped, even before it officially arrives on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 later this year.

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that both a Borderlands spin-off fronted by Tiny Tina and an XCOM spinoff set in the world of Marvel were both in the works. The former has since been formally announced back in June as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Could that Marvel/XCOM reveal be next?

It’s thought that 2K will announce their new game at this year’s Gamescom event, which is set to take place later this month. Hopefully we’ll find out more come Gamescom Opening Night Live, which starts on August 25.
