NBA 2K23 has been out for quite some time now, with plenty of game sales taking place in stores everywhere. For those that have been able to settle into the gameplay or perhaps have not just yet, there’s certainly always a lot to learn. But let’s start off with the basics, beginning first with how to shoot.

Scoring is the name of the game, plain and simple. And if you want to do more than just get easy layups and breakaway dunks, its best to get a good feel for shooting the ball from mid-range and beyond.

On that note, let’s dive right in to review the jump shot and free throw shooting controls in NBA 2K23.

Additional Tips: As always, shooting in NBA 2K23 comes down to timing. In comparison to previous editions where the shot meter moved quicker, this year you have to hold the shot button a lot longer, and the margin for error upon release is quite small.

The key when shooting is to release when the meter fills up all the way to the very brim. Doing so a tad early or late, will result in a missed shot eight to nine times out of ten. This also includes when you shoot from the free throw line, which sometimes will require a player to hold the button down even longer (or shorter).

In addition, your shooting success will also depend on how good each player’s shooting ratings are. The better their shooting is, the easier you’ll find it to shoot and score.
