What are the dragons in Tears of the Kingdom?

There are four dragons in Tears of the Kingdom that fly around specific areas of Hyrule. These dragons are:

  1. Dinraal
  2. Farosh
  3. Naydra
  4. The Light Dragon

Tears of the Kingdom dragon locations guide

Each of these dragons follows a set path every day, and knowing where to go and when can make finding them much easier. Aside from the Light Dragon, which travels around the whole map, each dragon is limited to a specific region, and can be easily reached from Tears of the Kingdom Skyview Towers. Each dragon also creates an updraft around them, meaning you can glide next to them without falling below.

You’ll also find these three dragons in the Depths, although as it’s difficult to get up high in the Depths, you might struggle in most of these areas to get close enough to the dragons. That’s why it’s best to stick to finding them on the surface.

Here are the locations of every dragon in Tears of the Kingdom:

Tears of the Kingdom dragon locations: The flight path of Dinraal

Dinraal

Dinraal is a fire dragon found in northeastern Hyrule. It emerges from the East Akkala Plains Chasm in Akkala, before flying north, around the northern edge of Death Mountain. It then flies west, past the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, and re-enters the Depths through the Drenan Highlands Chasm.

Be careful when getting close, as the air around the dragon is extremely hot, and fireballs will fly from the dragon’s head towards its tail. If you want to get close to Dinraal, it requires fire resistance either through Flamebreaker Armour or by using Tears of the Kingdom elixir recipes.

Tears of the Kingdom dragon locations: The flight path of Farosh

Farosh

Farosh is a lightning dragon, and is found in the south of the map, around the Gerudo Canyon and Faron region. It emerges from the East Gerudo Chasm, and heads north over the Gerudo Canyon. It then turns and heads east, flying across the northern bank of Lake Hylia, before entering the Depths through the Hills of Baumer Chasm.

The air around Farosh is permanently stormy, and it will shoot balls of lightning from its head to its tail. As soon as you get close, unequip all metal weapons and shields to avoid being struck by lightning.

Tears of the Kingdom dragon locations: The flight path of Naydra

Naydra

Naydra is an ice dragon found around the Lanayru and East Necluda regions. It leaves the Depths from the Lanayru Snowfield Chasm just west of the peak of Mount Lanayru. It then flies south to Cape Cales before looping around and flying northwest towards Kakariko Village, where it re-enters the Depths at the East Hill Chasm.

The air around Naydra is permanently cold. If you want to get anywhere near it, you’ll need armour that grants cold resistance, such as the Snowquill armour set, or use cold resistance elixirs.

Tears of the Kingdom dragon locations: The flight path of the Light Dragon.

The Light Dragon

The Light Dragon is a new addition to TotK. While it won’t harm you if you get close, it’s much harder to find, as its flight path spans the entirety of Hyrule. If you’re wanting to find it, your best bet is simply to circle around its flight path, to find where it’s currently flying, or pick a spot on the path and wait for it to arrive.

Whichever choice you go for, make sure you’re near a Skyview Tower or on a Sky Island to get enough height to reach it.

How do you find each dragon in Tears of the Kingdom?

The best way to find each dragon in Tears of the Kingdom is to pick the nearest Skyview Tower to its flight path and wait for it to fly past. Once it does, fly into the sky and glide above it. Each of the dragons at some point flies near a Skyview Tower, so we’ll tell you which ones to wait at if you’re hunting one of the elemental dragons.

  • Dinraal – Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower
  • Farosh – Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower
  • Naydra – Rabella Wetlands or Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower

As previously mentioned, given the long flight path of the Light Dragon, your best option is to simply teleport to different locations on its flight path to see where it is at any one time. Luckily, it flies past multiple Skyview Towers on its route, so if you have them all unlocked, just teleport there.

Once you’ve found any material from the dragon, you can take a picture to register it in the Hyrule Compendium. After doing this, you can use the Sensor+ on your Purah Pad to track the location of its respective dragon, making farming much easier.
