In the early hours of Steelrising, you’ll come across ledges begging to be accessed with a grappling hook, but rather frustratingly, the hook isn’t part of Aegis starting toolkit.

Though firmly rooted in the souls-like tradition, Steelrising is also seasoned with elements of the Metroidvania genre, chiefly abilities and tools unlocked later in the game that allow you to return to previous levels and access new areas.

The grappling hook is one such tool, only available quite a few hours into the game, depending on the path you take.

This guide will walk you through how to get the grappling hook in Steelrising.

To get the grappling hook – known as the Bishop’s Hook in Steelrising – you first need to progress through the game until you can go to La Cite level. Follow the In Search of Abbe Gregoire main quest through La Cite until you have to face off with a Titan at the Palais de Justice, the Bishop of the Cite.

The Bishop offers up a tough challenge and is likely the hardest enemy you’ve encountered so far. But as with most Steelrising boss fights, perseverance, and a good dose of grenades, should see you come out victorious before long. Once you’ve defeated Steelrising’s Bishop of the Cite boss, you’ll automatically get the grappling hook.

Unlike conventional weapons and clothing in Steelrising, the grappling hook doesn’t need equipping. As you explore Steelrising, you’ll get a visual prompt to use it on ledges, balconies, and whatnot. It’s worth looking upwards regularly to avoid missing them.

The Bishop’s Hook isn’t just a useful traversal tool; it can also be used in combat. When Aegis uses the Bishop’s Hook on an enemy, the target receives fulmination damage. Attacking costs Alchemical Capsules, three capsules to be exact, and Aegis must be in range of the target.

That covers how to get the grappling hook in Steelrising. Need a hand with other aspects of Spiders’ new souls-like? Check out our other guides:
