Does the Spider-Man 2 New Zealand trick work?
Unfortunately, no. You cannot use the Spider-Man 2 New Zealand trick due to its simultaneous global release. Though Insomniac Games and PlayStation have yet to confirm the exact Spider-Man 2 release time, we fully expect the game to become available at a similar point in all regions, meaning you’ll be able to play it concurrently with those in NZ.
This trick typically only works when a game has a global midnight release. So, since 12 AM strikes much earlier in New Zealand than in other countries, you could then use a mere timezone switch to access a new release ahead of schedule.
It’s also worth noting that Sony has several means in place to counteract the New Zealand trick, such as security measures that determine your PSN account’s region, along with the email address and payment information you’ve used in the past.
