Housed in the basement cave below Slime Rancher 2’s Conservatory, you’ll find several devices, including a hulking machine named the Refinery. Interacting with it reveals a selection of Plorts and other resources, like Lava Dust and Jellystone, with a specific number assigned to each, likely all set to zero when you visit it for the first time.
What’s this curious device for, and how do you use it?

What is the Slime Rancher 2 Refinery?
Going by the in-game Slimepedia, the Slime Rancher 2 Refinery is ‘the first step to building fantastic gadgets.’ Not the most helpful description, we’ll admit. The Refinery is a repository of sorts to stockpile Plorts and other materials for use in the Fabricator, located just left in the basement, to craft upgrades and gadgets vital to getting ahead in Slime Rancher 2.
You can use the Fabricator if you have the correct items in your inventory, but the Refinery offers peace of mind as you grind towards a particular upgrade. You know the resources are safely stowed away at home, and you won’t accidentally lose them while out and about.

How to Use the Refinery
You can add resources to the Refinery by firing them into the green spiral opening just above the console or using Refinery Links scattered throughout the world. Refinery Links automatically transport resources back to the Refinery, saving you a lengthy trip back home to lighten your inventory.
The number beside each square indicates how many of that specific resource you currently have stored in the Refinery. However, once something is in the Slime Rancher 2 Refinery, it can’t be removed or retrieved, earmarking it for crafting and crafting only.
This limitation doesn’t matter much for resources like Radiant Ore, as you’ll use them exclusively for crafting. But, if you need a quick injection of cash to expand a Corral, for example, it may be best to avoid sending all your Plorts to the Refinery and visit the Market instead.
That’s a wrap on our guide to the Slime Rancher 2 Refinery. Happy ranching.
