This guide explains how to unlock threats in Saints Row.

Volition’s latest open-world crime sim is stacked with activities, including side hustles, discoveries, and, more importantly for the purpose of this article, threats, for you tick off on your way to dominating Santo Illeso.

When viewing the map, you can hover over any neighborhood and see a check list of which ones you’ve completed along with their corresponding locations on the map itself. That is, for everything but threats.

So, how do you unlock threats in Saints Row?

There are two steps to unlocking threats on the map in Saints Row.

  • First, complete the Networking main mission, which involves helping JimRob with a Los Panteros-shaped problem. Helping him out secures his loyalty. The mission comes a good few hours into the game, so keep slogging away if it isn’t available quite yet.
  • Second, place a criminal venture building to unlock threats for that specific area. If you build the venture in Marina East, doing so unlocks threats for Marina East and Marina East only, and so on.

To establish a criminal venture, head to the church and go up to the second floor, then interact with the Empire Table. Select a vacant lot, then a criminal venture from the left hand column, and finally hit Place Building at the bottom of the screen. Placing a venture requires a stack of cash so make sure you’ve got the funds handy.

Jump back to the map and navigate to the neighborhood where you built the venture. You’ll see the area sprinkled with red/white/black knucklebuster icons – these are threats in Saints Row.

Types of Threats

Threats come in various types but the general goal is to cause havoc and strike a blow to the enemy gang dominant in that area or the local fuzz.

Here’s a break down of the type of threats you’ll encounter in Saints Row:

  • Police Surveillance – Find and destroy police vans
  • Panteros Muscle – Defeat enemies
  • Panteros Cars – Find and destroy gang cars
  • Idols Stash – Find and defend the stash
  • Idols Vandals – Defeat enemies
  • Marshall Drones – Destroy the security drones

Completing all threats raises the hourly income for that area’s criminal venture so they’re well worth doing alongside the criminal venture missions themselves.
