Resident Evil 4 Remake: Village Preparation

When first entering the village, you’ll be prompted to use binoculars to get a closer look at a disturbing sight. The villagers are burning someone alive in the village square.
Taking the direct route through the village square might be tempting, but it’s heavily inadvisable. You’ll almost certainly burn through all of your ammo taking out the initial group of villagers, and more will be swarming in all the time. It’s best to be as prepared as possible before taking on the inevitable encounter.
Instead of proceeding straight ahead, take the quieter path to the left and pick up the Green Herbs. Up ahead a villager will be raking with their back to you. Sneak up and use your melee weapon when prompted to perform a stealth kill, then break the nearby item crate.
From this point, head back to the village entrance, move ahead, and to the right, stealth killing any villagers that have their back to you. This area contains several item crates containing ammo and funds, as well as Red Herbs in the back of the wagon. Combine the red and green herbs for a more potent healing item, then get ready to confront the villagers.

Resident Evil 4 Remake: Surviving The Assault

Choose an initially defensible spot, then begin picking off the villagers. Keep moving as much as you can, more foes will spawn all the time and can quickly surround Leon.
Crucially, the aim here is not to take out every villager, but just to survive for around five minutes after the villagers notice you. Around halfway through this time, a fearsome chainsaw-wielding foe will spawn. Avoid them unless you’re feeling brave as they soak up far more ammo than any standard villager.
Keeping hold of the Flash Grenade found at the village entrance will be beneficial, as its stun effect grants you time to either make a quick escape when being mobbed or get in a few accurate shots.

If you can keep moving, dodging attacks, and taking out enemies where you can, eventually the church bells will ring. When they do, the whole horde will stop their assault and you will be able to proceed onwards in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
