What Are Paradox Pokemons?

Excluding Koraidon and Miraidon, there are currently 14 Paradox Pokemon. These Pokemon are the ancient and future relatives of the present-day Pokemons that you’ll find roaming around in the region of Paldea. To catch the Ancient Pokemon, you’ll need a copy of Pokemon Scarlet, and for the Future Pokemon, you’ll need a copy of Pokemon Violet.

While it is unknown where they come from, as they could be from another dimension, one thing is for sure: they are pretty stronger than their present-day counterparts. However, you will only be able to catch these Pokemon after you’ve completed the game.

Roaring Moon – Mega Salamence Paradox Form

Salamence has always stood out among Pokemon fans as one of the strongest Pseudo-Legendaries with interesting lore behind its evolutionary line. Therefore, when Salamence’s distant relative, Screaming Moon, was introduced, Pokemon fans were all over it, as it clearly resembled Salamence’s Mega Evolution.

Amusingly enough, every Paradox Pokemon has a weird name that somehow matches its appearance. And as the name implies, Roaring Moon is a Dragon/Dark type Pokemon with Mega Salamence’s moon wing span and a tendency to screech.

While Roaring Moon’s base stats fall 10 short of Salamence’s 600, he’s able to dominate the competitive scene due to its broken ability, Protosynthesis. This is the signature ability for all Ancient Paradox Pokemon, and for Roaring Moon, he enjoys a 30% Attack stat boost when in the sunlight or when holding Booster Energy, which is pretty ridiculous if you do the math right.

How To Get Roaring Moon

Trainers are working up a sweat in order to obtain Roaring Moon. Apart from owning the Scarlet copy of the game, as this is an ancient Pokemon, players will also have to go through all three main story paths in the game. Furthermore, this Pokemon only spawns at a specific location in the entire Great Crater. Here’s how you can get yours:

  1. Before you start, stock up on some Great Balls and Ultra Balls.
  2. Now fly to the Zero Gate and enter Area Zero, and at this point, you should be able to enter with ease.
  3. When you enter it, you’ll see a portal with four options, each of which will transport you to a different Research Station in the Great Crater.
  4. Make your way to the center of the Great Crater using Research Station No 3.
  5. (Optional) You can also use Research Stations No. 1 and 2, but getting to the center of the Great Crater will take some effort, as the former will have you gliding from the cliff toward the center, and the latter will have you running down the slope.
  6. Either way, you’ll end up at the center of the Great Crater, and as you look forward, a little bit to the left, there’s going to be a stone archway with a tree just further up ahead.
  7. Make your way up to the tree, and just before you reach it, there’s going to be a stone pathway on your left.
  8. Move through it, and you’ll enter a secret cave.
  9. This cave is the only spawn location for Roaring Moon, and popping up some sandwiches that enhance Dragon Type spawn can be quite helpful.

Roaring Moon – Shiny Hunt

Because the endgame credits have already rolled, you now have access to Herba Mystica’s Sparkling Power, though you’ll get them from five-star star raids only. The Sparkling Power for Dragon Types will increase your chances of encountering a Shiny Roaring Moon. And if you’re a completionist, who has completed the Paldea Pokedex, you’ll be awarded the Shiny Charm.

Your chances of getting a Shiny Roaring Moon will increase even more with the Sparkling Power and Shiny Charm combined. After you spot a Shiny Roaring Moon in the wild, the oldest trick in the book is to save beforehand (so you can repeat the battle if you lose), battle it, and get its HP as low as possible. Now, all that’s left to do is exhaust your Ultra Balls stock until you catch it.

Stats Difference Of Roaring Moon And Salamence

If not for Roaring Moon’s inferior Defense and Special Attack stats, this Paradox Pokemon would’ve easily surpassed its current-day counterpart.
