The time of day is something that has become a sort of staple in the Pokemon series. After all, there are various activities that can only be done at a specific time of day.
For example, some Pokemon can only be caught at a specific time of day (morning, evening, night) while others, like the fan favorite Eevee, have evolutions affected by it. Eevee fans will know that it becomes Umbreon at night and Espeon during the day, even though both of their evolution conditions are the same.
The feature makes a return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, although some players might be disappointed to know that they aren’t able to manipulate the time of the day like they were able to in previous installments.
How To Change Time of Day?
Unfortunately, there’s no way to change the time of the day in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet manually. Many players have gone as far as to try to change the system time in their Nintendo Switch devices but to no avail.
Others have tried sleeping in their dorm beds, thinking that similar to popular RPGs, doing so will fasten the time by half a day or more. However, that also wasn’t of any use, as all it does is recover your Pokemon’s HP and PP.
Instead, the only way to change the time is by waiting until the in-game time changes automatically. One in game day cycle lasts around 30 minutes or so, which means you’ll have to wait around 20 minutes for it to be nighttime.
The game goes through three distinct time phases in this 30-minute cycle. There’s day, dusk, and dawn. Keep an eye out for the in-game timer as well as the state of the moon or sun when journeying the region of Paldea to estimate how much time is left for it to reach the time of day you want.
Best Ways to Pass Time in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Fortunately, the region of Paldea has many ways by which you can quickly pass time productively, such as:
- Setting up picnics in order to hang out with your Pokemon and perform activities such as feeding them, breeding, and just talking with them to raise your friendship level.
- Collecting specific items or Pokemon, either for their usefulness or not fill up your Pokedex a little as you wait for the time to pass.
- Conducting Tera Raid Battle Events in order to collect various rewards such as EXP candies that can be used to significantly level up your Pokemon.
- Grinding the levels of your Pokemon either by battling wild Pokemon or enemy trainers to prepare for the next gym or challenge.
Although taking away the ability to manually change the time from players might be an infuriating decision for some players, we believe it puts a sense of immersion and realism in an otherwise completely unrealistic game.
Catch different Pokemon
The time of day in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet effects what Pokemon you see out in the wild. Certain Pokemon only appear at night so make sure to check each location for new Pokemon.
Some might have seen the ability to change your device’s time to manipulate the in game time as a way of cheating the system. Luckily, it isn’t like the in-game day cycle is too long either, and with there being so many ways of passing time in Paldea, it’ll be the time of day you want before you know it.
