It’s nearly time for another season of Blizzard’s hero shooter, but when is the Overwatch 2 Season 7 release date?

The game’s most recent season – Overwatch 2 Season 6 Invasion was the game’s most significant since launch, introducing a slew of new PvE content and giving the game an arguably much-needed shake-up, with plenty to offer fans. It included a unique hero by the name of Illari and the all-new Hero Mastery mode and Hero Progression system.

So while it’s true Season 7 might not be quite as drastic a change, there’s still plenty in store for the shooter – with rumours that there may be a Diablo crossover in store too, which would indeed dovetail nicely into a similar crossover with Activision stablemate Call of Duty MW2’s own crossover with Diablo.

Here’s what we know so far.

Overwatch 2 Season 7 start date

Overwatch 2’s start date has been confirmed for October 10, 2023. The date was confirmed as part of the Overwatch 2 Grand Finals, which took place during the first week of October. A trailer for the new season – subtitled Rise of Darkness – has also gone live on October 4, giving us even more of an idea about what we can expect from the latest season.

Overwatch 2 Season 7 start time prediction

While Blizzard hasn’t confirmed it at the time of writing, we predict that season 7 over Overwatch 2 will kick off around the same time as previous seasons – that’s around 8pm BST/12pm PT/3pm ET.

Overwatch 2 Season 7 new map – Samoa

Overwatch 2 Season 7 will introduce a brand new Control map based on the island of Samoa. The map was also shown during the showcase at the Overwatch 2 Grand Finals and will include an idyllic island paradise befitting of the new location, including sunny skies, beach huts, and a secret base around a volcano, as you do.

Blizzard gave us our first look at the new map in action during the Overwatch League Grand Finals 2023, with game director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss showing off the new environment and teasing that each control point on the map will feel different – with a beautiful beach, a dense Downtown area and the last point set in an Ecopoint base slap bang in the middle of a dangerous volcano with a lava flow running through the middle. You’ll have to watch out for the hazards of the level and the other team. And for those who like their easter eggs, Neuss teased there might be some nods to World of Warcraft in there – and even some coconuts to play with in the spawn rooms!

You can check out the footage of the new map for yourself below from the Overwatch League Grand Finals 2023 broadcast at around the 4 hour, 4 minute mark:

Overwatch 2 Season 7 Sombra changes

Blizzard has also revealed that it’ll provide a significant rework to Sombra’s suite of skills, meaning the stealthy infiltrator will present a refreshed play style to those who plan on using her. According to the developer’s official blog post, their goal with these changes “is to allow Sombra to be more committed to targets she engages with and have a more active feel to her kit, all the while maintaining her character identity and playstyle as the world’s greatest hacker.” Whether these revamped abilities will allow her to do that remains to be seen, but you won’t have to wait too long now to try her out for yourself in-game.
