What is the Overwatch 2 Season 5 release date? The most recent season brought a new Support hero in Lifeweaver and made some long-coming changes to how the game works by removing map pools and seasonal decay. The question is now how well can the next season follow up with such major changes and keep players interested?

Here is what you need to know about Season 5 in Overwatch 2. If you missed out, be sure to check out all the Overwatch Season 4 details.

Overwatch 2 Season 5 release date

While the date hasn’t been 100% cemented by Blizzard, we now have a pretty good idea of the start date for Overwatch 2 Season 5. An email sent to Overwatch players has now confirmed that Season 4 will end on June 12, 2023. Therefore, assuming Blizzard won’t want to make players suffer too much downtime, we expect Season 5 to begin on or around June 13, 2023. Up to this point in Overwatch 2, every season in the game has lasted nine weeks with the next one starting as soon as the previous one ends.

Is there a new hero in Overwatch 2 Season 5?

There is not a new hero coming in Overwatch 2 Season 5. New playable characters are added to the game on every even numbered season going forward, so Lifeweaver is Season 4’s and there won’t be a new one until Season 6. When that happens, it has already been confirmed that the next hero is another Support.

Will a new map be added in Overwatch 2 Season 5?

While a new hero isn’t coming in the next Overwatch 2 season, you can likely expect a new location. Previously, Blizzard has claimed that every odd season going forward should add a new map for people to get acclimated to. Given that Season 3 added a Control map in Antarctic Peninsula  you can expect probably a new Escort, Hybrid, or Push map.

However, a specific announcement of a new map was notably absent from the Overwatch 2 roadmap that was revealed in mid-May, so it’s possible that plans have changed. We’ll update when we hear more and if one is revealed.

What events are coming in Overwatch 2 Season 5?

During the recent Look Ahead broadcast, Blizzard has revealed there will be three events in Season 5. They include the brand new mysterious Questwatch – which seems to be RPG themed (and is likely a cheeky nod to their other big release coming the same week – Diablo 4) – a ‘Mischief and Magic’ event and the return of the popular ‘Summer Games’ annual event. There’ll be more about each of these revealed before they happen – so we’ll update when we know more. Overwatch 2 has also been really good about introducing new events for players to play, so expect the unexpected.

We will update this article with more information when we have it. In the meantime, you can learn how to play Lifeweaver and check out the full break down of Lifeweaver abilities, the game’s newest Support.
