Any free-to-play game relies on earning XP to level up and unlock tiers in the Battle Pass. Marvel Rivals is no different, but how to earn XP isn’t immediately apparent, especially if you’re trying to unlock all the skins in the Battle Pass. There are a few ways to earn new skins in the game, from redeeming codes, Twitch unlocks, buying the Battle Pass, and buying themed skins from the storefront. The Battle Pass is filled with unique designs for plenty of different characters, but unlocking them isn’t immediately obvious so we’ll cover this below, too, so you can easily get the Mantis skin.
How to get XP in Marvel Rivals explained
Marvel Rivals has two kinds of XP: one to unlock tiers in the Battle Pass and then general XP that dictates your level. Here is how you unlock both kinds of XP.
How to earn Battle Pass XP in Marvel Rivals
To earn Battle Pass XP, you’ll need complete specific missions that drop every few days. You’ll then be rewarded with Chrono Tokens, which are purple Hexagons with lightning bolts running through them. The missions vary but usually require you to defeat enemies with certain characters on specific maps. It’s a good way to encourage players to use characters they may not traditionally go for.
You can see these challenges by going to the Season tab and then to Missions, which will show all the missions you have left to complete. There’s no way to check these while in a match, but hopefully, this will be patched in at some point in the future. Once you have enough Chrono Tokens, you can unlock items in the Battle Pass. Battle Passes don’t expire, so once you’ve got them, you have as long as you like to complete them, which is a welcome quality-of-life feature from NetEase Games.
Unlocking the Battle Pass through mission objectives and not just regular XP has already been unpopular with players, as seen on Reddit. It remains to be seen if this will be changed in the future after it was also poorly received during the beta.
How to earn regular XP in Marvel Rivals
To earn regular XP, all you need to do is play matches of Marvel Rivals. The better you perform in the match with assists or eliminations, the more XP you’ll gain and, in turn, your level will go up. You’ll need to grind this to unlock competitive play, which unlocks at level 10.
