  • Jeff the Land Shark is an adorable healer who has a neat movement buff and a tactical ultimate.

Jeff the Land Shark is an adorable Strategist hero in Marvel RIvals. While this adorable character can zip around the map and hum the Jaws theme with just its dorsal fin extended, don’t underestimate it. With decent attacks and a surprising ultimate, you will be able to do more than heal allies with your splash ability. The character first appeared in West Coast Avengers as a creation of M.O.D. Here’s an ability breakdown of this character and how you can utilise him effectively on a team.

Jeff the Land Shark abilities

Jeff has an interesting mix of healing and offensive abilities. He was added to the game alongside Thor in the closed beta playtest. Aqua burst lets you damage enemies while Joyful Splash and Healing Bubble let you keep allies healthy in combat. As for getting around the map, the Hide and Seek ability will definitely come in handy. It also makes you a harder target as you escape, perfect for finding a health kit in the 6v6 hero shooter. Here are all of its abilities:

AbilityDescription
Joyful Splash (LMB)Unleash a Healing Splash in front of you.
Aqua Burst (RMB)Launch a high-speed water sphere that bursts upon impact, dealing decent damage to enemies within range.
It’s Jeff (Q)Deep dive into the scene and resurface to swallow both enemies and allies within range, activating Hide and Seek for a brief duration before ejecting the swallowed heroes forward. You can eject them in different locations.
Healing Bubble (E)Spit a bubble that heals the ally who collects it and boosts all healing received by this character.
Hide and Seek (L-Shift)Dive into the scene with only its dorsal fin exposed, granting it a movement boost and the wall-crawl ability.
Oblivious Cuteness (Passive)You do not get critical damage from critical strikes.

How to play as Jeff the Land Shark effectively

Here’s how we got the most of Jeff’s kit in the closed beta:

  • Keep using Hide and Seek to move around the map quickly. It doesn’t have a cooldown like other mobility options so use it often. It also makes you a smaller target so use it when you’re retreating from a fight. Your Oblivious Cuteness passive also eliminates critical damage.
  • Heal effectively by swapping between Aqua Burst and Healing Bubbles. You can accumulate the latter beforehand so that you can help multiple allies at once. And remember that you can drop these bubbles as pickups for allies to take later.
  • Your Aqua Burst has decent range so you don’t need to be in the thick of the action to heal allies. Watch out for Duelists like Black Panther who can quickly knock you out if you don’t use Hide and Seek on time.
  • Hide and Seek can be used to climb walls so use it to gain the high ground advantage while healing or attacking flying foes like Iron Man.
  • Rely on the It’s Jeff ultimate when you want to reshuffle enemy positions or to push your allies towards an objective. And yes, this can be used in certain maps to throw foes outside the map or Doctor Strange’s portal to eliminate them. An exploit even lets you carry foes into your spawn point to trap them.
  • Rely on team up combos with Luna Snow and Groot. The former adds an ice bonus to your attacks (Namor’s as well) while Groot lets you sit on his shoulders for a damage reduction buff. The latter works only if Rocket Raccoon didn’t get there first.
