In Marvel Rivals, players are often found chilling in the casual mode, trying out different heroes and interesting team compositions where the main goal is to enjoy the free-to-play shooter. However, for those seeking more than merely casual encounters, the game features a competitive mode designed to challenge the skills of even the most experienced players. One of the major pulls of this mode is its meticulously crafted ranked system which promises prestige and recognition for those who dare to compete. If you’re also looking to put your skills to the test on your journey to becoming a Marvel Rivals pro, here are all the ranks and competitive modes explained in Marvel Rivals.
All Marvel Rivals ranks in order
Marvel Rivals features nine distinct divisions designated by name, with three sub-divisions each with the exception of the top two ranks. Some ranked game rules can change depending on which rank you occupy, as we will outline later on. With each 100 competitive points earned, you will climb by one sub-division. Here are all the ranks in order in Marvel Rivals:
Rank | Extra rules |
---|---|
Bronze III, II, I | No changes |
Silver III, II, I | No changes |
Gold III, II, I | No changes |
Platinum III, II, I | No changes |
Diamond III, II, I | When all players in a match are Diamond III or above, each team gets to ban 2 heroes before the match starts. |
Grandmaster III, II, I | As above |
Celestial III, II, I | As above |
Eternity | You risk relegation if you don’t compete at this rank for an extended period of time because you lose rank points slowly. |
One Above All | Numbers only the Top 500 players. You risk relegation if you don’t compete at this rank for an extended period of time because you lose rank points slowly. |
Ranking and team rules in Marvel Rivals Competitive mode
The ranking system features a progression from Bronze to Platinum, segmented into three distinct tiers, with each tier demanding 100 points for advancement. Upon reaching the prestigious Diamond rank, players unlock a hero ban system, empowering teams to tactically eliminate specific heroes from matches.

However, players in Gold and below can team up freely without any restrictions. For those in Gold I and up to Celestial tiers, teaming is limited to within three divisions difference. Players in Eternity or One Above All tiers can team with Celestial II players within 200 points (so two full tiers). However, if they exceed 200 points, the point difference must become less than 200.
The top tiers, Eternity and One Above All, function in distinct ways. The ranking system operates on an elo-based framework, focusing on player performance rather than traditional tier progression. The One Above All title is a prestigious accolade reserved for the top 500 players worldwide, highlighting the pinnacle of competitive excellence.
Lastly, it bears mentioning that players between platforms can’t join together in the Competitive mode. That means that PC players can’t play with Xbox and PlayStation players. Meanwhile, the console players can freely join up or face each other.
How does Competitive mode work in Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals features a competitive mode that strikingly resembles the ranked system found in Blizzard’s Overwatch 2. Before jumping into ranked play, players need to hit level 10, which guarantees they have a solid grasp of the game’s mechanics.
Similar to Overwatch, Rivals features a tier-based ranking system that begins with Bronze and progresses all the way up to One Above All. In both titles, your rank points are influenced by the outcomes of matches, and securing a win boosts your points, while a loss results in a deduction. Each tier is comprised of 100 points which you have to accumulate by winning matches. When you do that, you will progress to the next higher tier (or sub-division). Amongst the entangled timestreams, the cosmos grants you Chrono Shield in the game against losing rank. Only when these are depleted, will you truly fall to the lower rank.
At the higher echelons of ranks, a standout mechanic is the Hero Ban system. This feature empowers teams to strategically counter popular or overpowered characters. Check out the most banned Marvel Rivals heroes right here.
Another popular feature is Rank Decay which is designed to keep the competitive mode fresh, ensuring that only the most active players can hold onto their high ranks. The focus here is on the top of the hierarchy, specifically the top two ranks: Eternity and One Above All. When players step away from the game for a few days, they risk watching their rank points dip, which could ultimately result in a demotion.
Whenever a season of ranked play ends, all players will be dropped by six tiers at the start of the new season. Because of that, you won’t start the next season where you left it, and will instead have to fight your way back to your previous rank before resuming progress.
All Marvel Rivals free ranked rewards
Marvel Rivals also grants you plenty of rewards while playing its competitive or ranked mode. While reaching Gold I gives you access to real money tournaments within Rivals, you can also claim a few free rewards. For Season 1, those were the following:
Reward | Prerequisite |
---|---|
Blood Shield Invisible Woman costume | Reach rank Gold III or higher |
Silver Crest of Honor | Reach rank Grandmaster III or higher |
Gold Crest of Honor | Maintain the One Above All rank at the end of the season |
However, the costume reward will expire once Season 1 ends as they’re strictly meant for those who excel at the Competitive mode in Rivals.
