This year’s Madden 24 cover athlete is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Since his breakout season in 2020, Josh Allen has transformed into one of the best quarterbacks in the league, leading the Bills to three straight playoff appearances. In his last three seasons, Allen has thrown for 4,200+ yards and 35+ touchdowns in each, illustrating just how elite he truly is.

Josh Allen’s strong 2022 season not only led him to be voted as the TOTY Quarterback for Madden 23, but it has also led him to now receive one of the most distinguished honors in the game, by becoming the cover athlete for Madden 24. Allen is now the fourth quarterback to be featured on the cover over the last five years.

Upon being announced as the first Buffalo Bills player to be cover athlete in June, Allen stated that is was a “childhood dream come true” via social media. Any chance to be a lead athlete in one of EA Sports video games is a big deal, but Madden NFL cover athlete has a certain prestige that cannot be underestimated.

As a pre-order bonus, you can get early access to Madden 24 along with a Josh Allen Elite Player Item for Ultimate Team mode. NFL Marble Bills gear, Madden Points, and dual entitlement are all available too.

What is the Madden curse?

Josh Allen will be hoping he is not struck by the Madden curse and can lead the Bills to their first Super Bowl since the 90s. The Madden curse is an infamous and uncanny coincidence that any player who appears as the cover athlete encounter injury or serious decline in form.

Mahomes, Brady, and Jackson all appeared to go unscathed following their appearances. However, Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has struggled since he featured on the front of the game, playing only 16 times in the NFL since that season.

Who missed out?

After taking over from John Madden’s special edition cover last year, Allen has become the fourth QB in the past five years to don the cover. Mahomes, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, and Antonio Brown have all fronted recent editions of the game, with New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski fronting the game way back in Madden NFL 17.

This year there was close competition for who made the cover. Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson is part of the famed Madden 24 99 Club, but narrowly missed out on the cover. Jalen Hurts would have also had a strong case for the role, but Allen pipped them to the post.
