How to upgrade weapons in Lords of the Fallen

To upgrade weapons in Lords of the Fallen, you need to find and free Gerlinde, then trade materials and vigor with her back at Skyrest Bridge once she’s made her way there.

Unlocking Gerlinde is not as simple as it sounds. You’ll first need to find blacksmith Gerlinde. Once you do, you can free her and exhaust her dialogue options. She’ll leave the prison cell she was trapped in after you next rest or reload the area.

With Gerlinde free, she will become Skyrest Bridge’s smithy and even have her own workshop. Now that you have unlocked the right NPC for the job, you need to get upgrade materials. Later on, you can also use Gerlinde to socket runes into your weapons in Lords of the Fallen.

To upgrade weapons in Lords of the Fallen, you need to use Deralium Fragments. These come in different sizes:

  • Small Deralium Fragments – Upgrades weapons, shields, armor, and catalysts to +2
  • Regular Deralium Nuggets – Upgrades weapons, shields, armor, and catalysts to +5
  • Large Deralium Shards – Upgrades weapons, shields, armor, and catalysts to +9
  • Deralium Chunk – Upgrades weapons, shields, armor, and catalysts to +10

Deralium upgrade items will be found throughout the game so any time so get large ore fragments or small ore fragments, make sure to bring them to Gerlinde to upgrade your gear. It also helps to have the best starting class to survive long enough to unlock the blacksmith.
